HISTORY: Boone County Distilling Company is a distillery that was originally aquired in Petersburg, Kentucky, in 1833, but was re-established in Independence, Kentucky, in 2015. The original distillery was a steam mill bought by Virginia-born brothers John and William Snyder. Shortly after purchase it was transformed into Petersburg Distillery. The distillery ceased operations a decade before prohibition in 1910. The Distillery, in name, was re-established by Jack Wells and Josh Quinn, Boone County Kentucky. The distillery's tag line, “Made by Ghosts,” harkens to the early frontiers-men who crafted spirits in Boone County over a century ago.
In fact, Boone County Distilling’s first product – Eighteen 33 – is named for the year that Petersburg transformed from a steam mill into a distillery. It eventually produced as much as four million gallons a year in the mid-1800s before closing in 1910.
The new distillery designated (DSP-KY-20028) opened in 2015, is 5,000 square feet set on 2.5 acres and incorperates a distillery and tasting room at 10601 Toebben Drive in Boone County. It includes a 500-gallon pot still, four fermenters and a small bottling line with a capacity of 250 barrels a year. Barrels will be stored in a 3,000-square-foot steel building behind the distillery.
