Goose Island Beer also recalled two more of its 2015 Bourbon County batch (Coffee Stout & Barleywine) beers after confirming they were infected with a type of bacteria in the lactobacillus family.
Nine dated bottlings (See dates above in bold) of the well known Bourbon County Brand Stout and all of its special-to-Chicago Proprietor's Bourbon County Brand Stout had traces of lactobacillus acetotolerans, a type of bacteria that produces lactic acid which causes an off putting taste in beers.
The bacteria, while not harmful to human health in the levels found in the beers, tend to have a souring effect to beer. These bacteria are among the most common reasons that beer spoil.
